Call Out : Odessa

Launched via social media during the international conference Gender in revolution, war, and peacebuilding in 2017.

Call Out could be heard on two days: October 6 and 7 in Odessa Passage, a public covered passage situated at 34, Preobrazhenska street.

During the Ukrainian edition of Call out, 227 names were collected, they were compiled with those of the German edition. The voice of this edition was Svetlana Kholod, a popular TV host and a theater actress in Zaporizhia. The decision was made to combine two ways of reading: in Ukrainian and Russian to emphasize a complicated local situation and speculations around the language issues in Ukraine. The choice of the location in Odessa was influenced by the wish of the curator to confront different kinds of the public to the artwork and the reflexion about women history in Ukraine, this question remains unpopular and often pushed into the background.

Call out was a part of the artistic program From war with love by Q rators. During two days of the event, the participants of the conference and the local public were invited to discover a wide range of young contemporary artists from Germany, Ukraine, and France. The main goal was to present socially-engaged young artists who work with subjects such as war, gender, immigration, and feminism. From war with love is sponsored by Women in War through its policy of associating young scholars, activists and contemporary artists.
